Hydroxyambran is a cyclododecyl alcohol, a crystalline solid that melts just above room temperature. Its odor is a strong woody amber with a musky edge, and it gives weight and long tenacity to amber, woody and musk bases, sitting comfortably beside the drier ambers.
Hydroxyambran is a synthetic material; PubChem gives its IUPAC name as 2-cyclododecylpropan-1-ol. Formula C15H30O, molecular weight 226.40. The atlas files it under Amber; its office is fixative and its place is the drydown.
