Irotyl is Kao's name for ethyl 2-ethylhexanoate, a small ester with an unexpected smell: fruity, but also orris-like, with a carrot, powdery and herbal side. Kao suggests pairing it with the ionones to build an orris effect, and using it to freshen the opening of a rose or to give a fruit accord a juicy, grape-like turn. It is diffusive and belongs to the opening.

Irotyl is a synthetic material; PubChem gives its IUPAC name as ethyl 2-ethylhexanoate. Formula C10H20O2, molecular weight 172.26. The atlas files it under Powdery; its office is modifier and its place is the top.
