- Formula
- C17H24O
Phantolide opened the way for the indane and tetralin musks that followed. Its odour is drier and woodier than galaxolide, a dusty musk with a faint earthy shade, and it is now seldom used.
Phantolide is a synthetic material sold under a trade name; PubChem gives its IUPAC name as 1-(1,1,2,3,3,6-hexamethyl-2H-inden-5-yl)ethanone. Formula C17H24O, molecular weight 244.37. The atlas files it under Musk; its office is fixative and its place is the drydown.
