SANTALUM ALBUM OIL

True sandalwood is a creamy wood, milky to the point of yogurt, with a soft spice underneath. Australian Santalum spicatum is a different, drier wood and should not be filed under this name. The page means album, or an oil honest about being album.

It is the house blender: mass that does not argue. Orris becomes more skin. Rose becomes less sharp. Frankincense becomes cream instead of smoke. It also fixes, but the job written here is the quiet carrying, because that is how it is most often used.

Santalum album is listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN. The atlas follows it from Mysore and Sri Lanka and as a CO2 extract, then through the other species: S. paniculatum of Hawaiʻi, S. yasi of Fiji and Tonga, S. lanceolatum of northern Australia and S. austrocaledonicum of Vanuatu, with East African Osyris, which is not a Santalum at all. The santalenes, bergamotol and lanceol show how the balance of constituents shapes the milk.
